BSM instructor training

The final stage of your training to become an Approved Driving Instructor focuses on developing your ability to teach learner drivers. And when you train with BSM, we'll also make sure you're well prepared for taking out a BSM franchise.

The training programme

A final one-day introductory course kicks off this final part of your training. It takes you through everything you'll need to do to pass the Part 3 exam. Then it's back on the road with your trainer and learning partner for 40 hours of in-car training. To prepare you for your exam, you'll take a mock test under full exam conditions, so it's as much like the real thing as possible.

Trainee licence

Once you've had 40 hours of training at Part 3, you'll have your first opportunity to start teaching and earning. You can choose to apply for a trainee licence from the DSA and then you'll be able to take up a BSM franchise and begin your new career. To support you while you're on a trainee licence, we'll provide you with an additional 20 hours of training over the first 12 weeks of your licence to help you prepare for your Part 3 exam.

The Part 3 exam

The final exam is a one-hour practical test, which examines your instructional ability and technique. You'll be asked to teach learners of varying levels of competence in a role-play situation.

When you pass

Congratulations! You can now register as a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor. If you chose to take up a trainee licence, then you'll already be working. If you didn't, then now is the time to take up a BSM franchise and start your new career.

When you complete all your training with BSM, we guarantee to offer you a BSM franchise once you're ready. This means you'll enjoy a seamless transition from training to working with BSM.

What if you don't pass?

If you don't pass, you can have a further two attempts at the exam. If you're working on a trainee licence, we'll provide an additional 5 hours of training free of charge before any further attempts.

Additional training

To give you extra support, a package of remedial training is available to anyone who may need it. Carried out on a one-to-one basis, it is available to support you in passing either Part 2 or Part 3. Six hours of training is offered at a price of £105.00.
