Train the BSM way
BSM Instructor training
Our great value course provides everything you need to become a first class BSM driving instructor. After all, as the UK's longest established driving school, helping you qualify is what we're here for.
Quality time on the road
We know you'd rather be behind the wheel than in front of the whiteboard. So we've designed our course to help you do just that – with no classroom sessions throughout the course. You will attend a half day classroom session, if you take out a trainee license with BSM. You'll be driving with your dedicated personal in-car trainer – who can also advise and support you by phone*, email and online.
It won't be long before you're ready to take the official DSA exam. This consists of a multiple-choice test and practical on-road tests to assess your driving and teaching skills.
* Calls may be recorded and/or monitored
BSM training in three parts
BSM Training
BSM's instructor training course provides up to 80 hours of training, all developed over many years of experience working closely with instructors, trainees, learners and the Driving Standards Agency.
Part 1 Theory training
Working at home with BSM’s workbooks and manuals you'll progress through the course and arrange the test when you're ready. The Part 1 test is in two parts, multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test in which you'll need to identify hazards in video clips. Training Included: - Five hours of 1-to-1 training with a BSM driving instructor trainer.
Part 2 Driver training
Part 2 is your chance to get behind the wheel and start improving your personal standard of driving. This element consists of 15 hours of 1-1 training with your BSM driving instructor trainer. During this time your trainer will work with you to ensure you can drive with a high standard of competence, demonstrating a high level of driving technique, anticipation and consideration for other road users. These are the required elements of the DSA Part 2 driving ability test around which this section of the course is based. Training Included – Fifteen hours of 1-to-1 training with a BSM driving instructor.
Part 3 Instructional training
Your in-car training we'll teach you how to teach others to drive; and ultimately pass the DSA test of instructional ability and qualify as an ADI.
Drawing on the learning gained at Part 1 and Part 2, you'll be shown how to pass this knowledge onto your learner drivers. Once your core 40 hours of training are completed, you can apply for a trainee licence from the DSA and take up a BSM franchise and start working as an instructor.
We'll also provide an extra 20 hours of training over the first 12 weeks of your licence to prepare you for the final exam. Once you've passed part 3 you can register and start working as a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor.
