Train the BSM way
BSM Instructor training
Our great value course provides everything you need to become a first class BSM driving instructor. After all, as the UK's longest established driving school, helping you qualify is what we're here for.
Quality time on the road
We know you'd rather be behind the wheel than in front of the whiteboard. So we've designed our course to help you do just that – no classroom work, just a couple of short preparation sessions. You'll be driving with your dedicated personal in-car trainer – who can also advise and support you by phone*, email and online.
A training partner
Two makes for good learning company. So you and another trainee will train together on the in-car sessions, learning not only how to deliver training to learners; but how to observe, assess and give feedback, all under the supervision of your trainer. It won't be long before you're ready to take the official DSA exam. This consists of a multiple-choice test and practical on-road tests to assess your driving and teaching skills.
BSM training in three parts
BSM Training
BSM's instructor training course provides over 80 hours of training, all developed over many years of experience working closely with instructors, trainees, learners and the Driving Standards Agency. This - and the fact that BSM has more driving instructor experience than anyone else is probably why our course pass rates are far above the national average* and success rate is consistently 95% and even higher.
Part 1 Theory training
This home study module is brought to life with personal one-to-one tuition from your Trainer. Who will take you through our CD-ROM-based learning aids, study pack and introduce you to our exclusive online Instructor Academy.
You'll also meet your fellow trainees in regular online chat room sessions and access our extensive resource of training aids, videos, lesson plans, mock tests and advice on all things to do with teaching learner drivers.
In the DSA exam, your abilities are tested at a level far above those that learners are tested. You'll answer 100 multiple-choice questions on a touch screen computer and an enhanced hazard perception test. The format is similar to the learner drivers' one – but you'll be aiming for a much higher level. We give you all the training materials that you need including CD-ROM-based learning aids, a complete replica of the entire DSA question bank on our online Instructor Academy, as well as mock tests and other exercises to prepare you for the Part 1 exam, so that there are no surprises on the day.
Part 2 Driver training
Even before you pass part one you can begin your Part 2 in-car driver training where you'll receive more than 20 hours of in-car tuition with your trainer and learning partner. A mock test then makes sure you're 100% ready for the exam.
The Part 2 driver training aims to raise your driving ability to a level above and beyond common ‘advanced driving' and to one at which you will be fully prepared for both testing driving ability and for beginning your Part 3 instructional training
Part 3 Instructional training
Here, together with your learning partner, an initial 40 hours of intensive in-car training will teach you how to teach a learner driver to drive – and ultimately pass the DSA test of instructional ability and qualify as an ADI.
Drawing on the learning gained at Part 1 and Part 2, you'll be shown how to pass this knowledge onto your learner drivers. Once your core 40 hours of training are completed, you can apply for a trainee licence from the DSA and take up a BSM franchise and start working as an instructor.
We'll also provide an extra 20 hours of training over the first 12 weeks of your licence to prepare you for the final exam. Once you've passed part 3 you can register and start working as a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor.
