BSM Site Accessibility

BSM are aware that many of our customers have varying needs or a disability, which may affect how they may view and access our web site, therefore we have designed our site to allow you to make page adjustments through standard browser settings.

Browser Compatibility

This website is regularly tested on the most popular browsers and operating systems. These include screen readers and PDAs (Personal Data Assistants).

Browser Settings

To Increase the Text Size

  • In Internet Explorer, go to the View menu and select Text Size
  • In Mozilla Firefox, go to the View menu and select Text Size
  • In Opera, go to the File menu, select Preferences then Fonts and then change Minimum font size (pixels)
  • In Safari, go to the View menu and select Make Text Bigger or press the Apple Key and then the plus key ( then +)

Text and Colour Changes

Many browsers provide functionality to customise different aspects of font and colour. Below are examples of how to access this functionality.

  • In Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, then select the Accessibility button within the dialog box. You can then choose to
    • Ignore colors specified on Web pages
    • Ignore font styles specified on Web pages
    • Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages
  • In Firefox go to the Tools menu and select Options (Mac: Preferences), then within the left pane of the dialog, select Fonts & Colours
  • In Opera go to the Tools menu and select Preferences, then within the left pane of the dialog, select Fonts and Page Style

Keyboard shortcuts (Access Keys)

This website includes integrated keyboard shortcuts, known as Access Keys, to allow quick access to pages and provide quick and easy navigation for users without a mouse. The keyboard shortcuts can be used from any page in the site and are listed below:

1 = Home
2 = Learning to Drive
3 = BSM Lessons
4 = BSM Shop
5 = Become an instructor
6 = Contact us
7 = Site map
0 = Accessibility Page

To use these access keys follow the instructions below:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer - press 'Alt' and letter, then press enter.
  • Netscape - press 'Alt' and letter at the same time.
  • Mozilla - press 'Alt' and letter at the same time.
  • Apple Mac, Microsoft Internet Explorer - hold down 'Control' key and then press the letter.

Skip main navigation

For assistive software users, we have added a 'skip navigation' link on all pages except the home page. This is to help easier navigation around the site.

Braille, Large Font, Audio Material

We can send product literature to you in Braille, Large font or Audio. For us to make sure that we send you the correct information we'll need your name, address, which product you're interested in and the format you'd like e.g. Braille.

Textphone

BSM welcome calls through the TypeTalk service provided by BT. Call 18001, followed by the number you require. You'll then be connected to an operator offering Textphone assistance.
